Five Module Minor Oral Surgery Course Cohort 1 (First Module Starts 28/02/19)

Introduction

This new and exciting LonDEC course provides an opportunity for the dentists to comprehend the principles and techniques applied in minor oral surgical procedures. This course is designed for the busy practitioner as it spans 5 separate days of training through 2019.

Course objectives

All of the modules have been carefully designed to cover the main aspects of dentoalveolar surgery performed in daily practice. Interactive evidence based modular training for GDPs & dentists with special interest in Minor Oral surgery. The course includes:

  • 3 days of intense hands on training on sheep heads
  • 1 day of intense hands on training on cadavers (Important please note: This module is only available to delegates who have completed modules 1 to 4)

Module 1: Interactive session, case discussions

Day 1 is an Interactive theory session with case discussions and seminars and will set the underpinning knowledge for the remaining 4 days of practical training. This basic module will enlighten the minds to select appropriate cases and plan the best treatment option for your patients. It will refresh the knowledge about the medical problems we encounter in treating our patients.

Aims
Understand the:

  • Criteria for case selection, assessment and treatment planning for MOS cases.
  • The medical conditions and the management of medically compromised patients.
  • Management of patients on bisphosphonates and emerging new medications that can affect the treatment plans.

Module 2: Intensive hands-on sheep heads

6 hours CPD

This module will untangle the illusion about the basic concepts of Minor Oral Surgical procedures and will enable the delegates to understand the doctrine of flaps, bone removal and tooth sectioning.

Aims

  • Comprehend the basic principles of minor oral surgery.
  • Unravel the myths behind flap design, bone removal and suturing.

Module 3: Intensive hands-on sheep heads

Thursday 18th April 2019

6 hours CPD

This module will benefit the delegates to figure out the steps involved in performing the most common minor oral surgical procedures. Conducting these procedures at your practice will increase the profile of your team and develop your skills further.

Aims

  • Grasp the practical knowledge to deal with surgical extractions, retained roots & impacted teeth removal.
  • Gain confidence in managing patients with wisdom teeth removal & apical surgery.

Module 4: Intensive hands-on sheep heads

By virtue of this module students will be able to understand the aesthetic edge of minor oral surgical procedures. Appropriate management of dento-alveolar trauma & complications can help delegates to be confident about their treatment.

Aims
Understand the theory and practical knowledge behind:

  • Soft tissue management.
  • Biopsy.
  • Surgical management of dento-alveolar trauma.
  • Surgical complications and their management.

Module 5: Intensive hands-on cadaver heads

All day practical work in KCL Dissecting Rooms

Tuesday 4th June 2019

6 hours CPD

This exceptional opportunity to achieve hands on training on cadavers will aid the delegates to learn and apply their surgical skills in a state of the art facility. This module will take the delegates to the next level of oral surgical procedures training.

Aims
Hands on training for:

  • Complex dento-alveolar surgical procedures like Oral Antral Fistula (OAF) closure, socket preservation and bone grafts.
  • Soft tissue grafts.

Kash

Dr Kashif Hafeez has been privileged with Membership and Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland and was honoured with Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has completed his post graduate certificate in Medical and Dental education from Oxford Brookes University. He has special interest in Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology and has been practising in the picturesque Cotswold. He has been a post graduate Dental Foundation trainer for Oxford Deanery and has been fulfilling his duties currently as an Examiner for Royal College of Surgeons Ireland & Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He acts as an expert & advisor to the General Dental Council UK. He teaches Oral surgery and Implantology at the Masters programme of BPP University, UK and lectures nationally and internationally on Oral surgery & Dental Implantology, he has been presenting his scientific work at various international conferences.  In addition, he serves as Editorial Board member for Porodental CPD and a visiting Oral surgery Professor in Pakistan. He has a number of international publications. In 2013, he was honoured with the Dentist of the year award by APPS UK.
